Hyderabad: In an attempt to impart skill based education to meet the growing demands of the industry, the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) is now offering over 25 vocational courses at the intermediate level.
The courses which include engineering, health and paramedical, agriculture, business and commerce, humanities and home science will be offered in junior colleges in the state. These two year courses will have a compulsory ‘on-the-job’ training for a month at a related industry.
Apprenticeship
The courses are approved by the Director General of employment and Training, New Delhi and students who complete these courses can undergo apprenticeship training for a year on a monthly stipend, informed a release.
Students who have passed SSC can apply for these courses and on completion of the course, they can continue higher education at the degree level.
Other courses offered by the BIE include computer graphics and animation, hotel operations, fashion and garment making, commercial garment design, medical lab technician, accounting and taxation, office assistantship and pre-school teacher training.
These vocational courses are being offered at 75 vocational junior colleges in the twin cities and more colleges are expected to start these courses from this academic year.
