He started doing film since he was young. Therefore acting got into his blood and the moment he finished his studies he took up acting as his profession. When Mahesh was young he enjoyed acting as a hobby as he thought he got a chance to bunk the school.

Mahesh’s first appearance on the screen was by the film ‘Needa’. It was a very brief shot. Then he appeared in ‘Poraatam’. After seeing ‘Poraatam’ famous producer Doondi predicted that Mahesh would grow into a star one day, as the prediction turned out to be true today. Mahesh Babu has been ushered in as a hero with the film ‘Rajakumaarudu’ which was directed by K. Raghavendra Rao.
The film turned out to be a sensational hit. Mahesh Babu has heart full of gratitude and respect towards the great director as he decides to do a movie for the banner R.K. Film Associates (K. Raghavendra Rao’s banner) every year. He also plans to release a movie for every 100th day of his movies.
His sister and Show fame Manjula is producing a film with Mahesh under S. J.Surya’s direction in which Devyani is playing the mother of Mahesh. The filmbased on Tom hanks’ Hollywood film ‘The Big’. A.R. Rehman is annotating musicfor this film. The film is simultaneously being made in Tamil and Telugu as 'New' and ‘Naani’ respectively. Mahesh plays the hero in both the languages where Simran plays the heroine role in Tamil and Amisha Patel in Telugu.
