Personal Details:
On 19th March 1952 he was born to Manchu Narayanaswamy Naidu and Lakshmamma as Manchu Bhaktavatsalam Naidu. His birthplace is Modhugulapalem village of Andhra Pradesh, India. Ranganath Chowdary, Ramachandra Chowdary, and Krishna are his younger brothers and he has a sister named Vijaya.
He finished his schooling from Yerpedu village and Tirupati and pursued a degree in Physical Education from Chennai. He also worked as a physical training instructor in YMCA College, Madras.
Nirmala Devi is Mohanbabu's wife and they have three children, Lakshmi Prasanna, Vishnu Manchu, and Manchu Manoj Kumar. The actor is famously known for his short temper as he ended up in a controversy after he slapped the actress who acted in his son's debut when she could not act properly for a scene.
Director, Actor, Producer After coming to Madras he worked as an Assistant Director for a few years with director Lakshmi Deepak. He wanted to shift to acting and finally got a break in Dr. Narayana Rao Dasari's Swargam Narakam (1975) where he played a negative role. This movie was a big hit.
In his twenty five year old film career he has worked in more than 500 movies out of which he played the lead role in 80 of them. He started with small negative roles. Some of his hit movies are Kodama Simham (1982), Khaidi No.786 (1988), Major Chandrakanth(1993), Brahma(1992), Annamayya(1997), and Assembly Rowdy(2005). In Peda Rayudu (1995) the actor played a dual role. He has acted in 20 Tamil movies after being initiated by the Tamil actor Sivaji Ganesan.
He has produced around 30 movies. Prathigna (1983) was his first hit film. Major Chandrakanth was a tribute to actor Dr. Rama Rao Taraka Nandamuri.
Kumaran Rajini Rasigan. Mohandas played Major Devaraju in Mesthri and in Raju Maharaju he was seen as a rich businessman Chakravarthy, the elder brother of actor Sharvanand. His last release was Puri Jagannath's Kumaran Rajini Rasigan.

In 2007 he was given the prestigious national honor, Padma Shri, for his excellent service in the field of art.
